30 November – 6 December 2026 | Cape Town, South Africa
A week of events celebrating Antarctica
and the Southern Ocean
Cape Town becomes a meeting place for everyone who cares about the frozen continent and the living world.
Antarctica Week 2026 brings together indigenous representatives, artists, activists, lawyers, scientists, families, and the simply curious for nine days of assemblies, exhibitions, performances, conversations, film screenings, and creative events across the city, all exploring new ways of relating to Antarctica, the Southern Ocean and the more-than-human world.
Taking place at the start of the South African summer, the week marks a significant moment in the growing movement for Earth-centred governance, and there is something for every audience, whether you come for a single film screening or the whole week.
Highlights of the week
1 December · Public Signing of the Antarctica Declaration
Witness a landmark moment recognising Antarctica and the Southern Ocean as a living entity with inherent rights.
2 December · International Rights of Nature Tribunal: The Antarctica Case
A public tribunal hearing examining the rights, protection, and future of Antarctica through the lens of Earth-centred law.
…and much more throughout the week, with creative, academic and cultural events taking place across Cape Town from 30 November to 6 December.
