Carola Rackete

Germany

Carola Rackete is an ecologist, activist and merchant mariner. She has spent nine seasons in the Antarctic, working on vessels for the German and British polar research institute and Greenpeace, and is now focused on environmental justice campaigns. She successfully campaigned against the Davis airport project in Antarctica with the Bob Brown Foundation. Carola holds a Master’s degree in nature conservation and is based in Europe. While looking for new approaches to guarantee the long term protection of the Antarctic and its wildlife, she became the main instigator of this initiative for a Declaration. Published articles include Is the Antarctic Treaty a cause for celebration? The English language version of her bestseller “The time to act is now” is the first book to mention the Antarctica Declaration.
