Alejandra Mancilla is Professor of Philosophy in the Faculty of Humanities, University of Oslo, Norway. Her main research interests are in political and environmental philosophy, and ethics. She is currently working on a five-year project entitled “Dynamic Territory”, which asks how to solve conflicts of interest around land and natural resources on a global scale, when the stability and predictability of geographic, climatic and demographic factors can no longer be taken for granted. Her view of Antarctica as a fascinating place that forces us to rethink theories of territory, especially when it comes to concepts like sovereignty, colonialism, and conservation, is expressed in ‘The Moral Limits of Territorial Claims in Antarctica’, and ‘Four Principles to Justify Claims over Land and Natural Resources in Antarctica’. Alejandra is currently working on a book project on these topics.
